These Capoeira Cords are genuine from Brazil, hand braided and to be used by Capoeira Students depending the student level. The Capoeira Cords are Capoeira's version of belts as in other Martial Arts and are givin only once a year in Capoeira Luanda at a graduation ceremony called a Batizado or Troca de Corda. Traditionally the Batizado/Troca de Corda is the only time cords are given. The cord system in Capoeira is not standardized; every group has a different order of colors. Some follow the colors of the Brazilian flag – green, yellow, blue, and white – and others introduce other colors, such as red, orange, purple, and brown. Many have mixed-color belts that are in between the main color levels. Different groups also have different requirements for advancement to the next cord level.
